Dynamic Sled Testing

Dynamic Sled Testing | APV-T | APV Test Centre

The APV Test Centre offers a range of NATA accredited dynamic sled testing capabilities with specialised hardware and software to simulate a wide array of dynamic load conditions.

Sled testing offers a method of testing products to simulate crash conditions at a much lower cost than crashing a new off-the-line vehicle.  From aftermarket vehicle additions to full vehicle restraint systems, sled testing can be used in both the R&D and certification stages to ensure the expected dynamic performance requirements of your product are achieved.

The APV Test Centre offers two separate sled testing facilities; an electric motor driven haulage system powering a sled on our 70 metre crash track for more complex test protocols and a smaller catapult sled which offers a lower spec alternative suitable for less in-depth impact procedures.  Both facilities are fully supported with atmosphere-controlled preparation and test areas, fully instrumented anthropometric test dummies, high-speed camera and data acquisition equipment, advanced data post processing software and 3D digital coordinate measurement capabilities.  On-site fabrication and film analysis services are also available.

Electric motor haulage sled

  • Incorporated into the APV crash facility
  • 70m indoor test track with test velocities up to 80kph and test object masses up to 4 tonnes
  • Full-scale body-in-white can be mounted on sled
  • Capable of simulating a range of different test deceleration-time histories, (crash pulse), which can be tuned to meet requirements
  • NATA accredited simulation of a range of crash modes; frontal, off-set frontal, mobile barrier side, and pole side impacts.

Catapult sled

  • A lower spec alternative
  • 40m indoor test track with test velocities up to 70kph and test object mass up to 800kg
  • 60G deceleration capacity
  • Able to support small test samples, for example; vehicle seats, child seats, or wheelchairs
  • Capable of simulating a sinusoidal deceleration-time history, with moderate tuning capabilities
  • NATA accredited simulation of generic and regulatory crash conditions

Applications

  • Automotive aftermarket product testing
  • Child restraint system testing
  • Bull bar testing
  • Automotive crash simulation testing
  • Aircraft crash simulation testing
  • Bus and coach seat testing
  • Luggage retention testing
  • Hardware dynamic loading testing
  • Wheelchair testing
  • FIA motorsport harness development
  • Ferry seat testing
